Achievement Awards Scheme

Information on how to get Achievement Awards and how to use them towards Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Foil, Epee and Sabre

The scheme is available to all who take part in fencing.

Nine awards for each weapon provide incentive for the progressive learning of fencing skills and theory. The skills required for each award are illustrated on colour-coded wall posters and fencers of all ages can monitor their progress by receiving tracksuit badges and certificates.

Packs of 5 badges and certificates for each grade can be purchased from BFA HQ, by registered coaches.

Who Can Issue Awards

  • Club Leaders may award Grade 1 Foil
  • Club Coaches may award up to Grade 3 at the weapons for which they are qualified
  • County Coaches may award up to Grade 6 at their weapons
  • Regional and Senior coaches may award Grades 1-9 at their weapons
  • Level 1 Coach can award Grades 1 and 2 in the weapons for which they are qualified
  • Level 2 Coach can award Grades 1 to 5 inclusive in the weapons for which they are qualified
  • Level 3, 4 or 5 Coach can award all Grades in the weapons for which they are qualified
  • Awards may be adapted for disabled fencers

BFA Achievement Awards are recognised by other organisations and can be included in Duke of Edinburgh Awards, requirements for the Stunt Register, Scouts and Guides Associations awards etc.

PLEASE NOTE: From April 2010 the costs of the Achievement Awards pack will increase to £20.00.
