Selection dates & details for Senior
2010 SENIOR 5 NATIONS AND SENIOR COMMONWEALTHS
The selection date for these two events is 1st May 2010.
Emails will be sent to all fencers in the selection zone for whom we have current email addresses. It would be a great help if fencers could respond to that email, indicating availability. If they have any information which they feel the selectors should be aware of when making their decision, they should email it by 1st May 2010 to ray.stafford@englandfencing.org.uk . This also applies to fencers outside of the selection zone, but who nonetheless feel that they have good grounds to be considered for selection.
The selection zone consists of the top 12 eligible fencers on the ranking list at May 1st 2010 (ie including April 2010 competition results). England Fencing reserves the right to select from outside of the zone in exceptional circumstances.
We hope to announce selections as soon as possible, but please remember that the selectors are volunteers, and there are some factors which sometimes delay their work.
Any appeals against non-selection should be notified by email to peter.smith@englandfencing.org.uk within 7 days of the posting of the teams on this website. Appeals received after the 7 day deadline will not be considered.
Please see below for guidance to fencers, and for the guidance issued to selectors.
Good luck!
Ray
Selection Notice - 2010 Senior 5 Nations and Senior Commonwealths.pdf
The event will be held in Sunderland Tennis centre Thursday 2th September to Sunday 5th September. The selected fencers must commit to arriving & leaving on these dates & must attend the closing ceremony at 4pm, this will be communicated to all fencers in the invitations sent to them to check availability. To be eligible fencers must be born 1992-97 as well as meeting the England eligibility criteria described here. If the eligibility requirements of the UKSG differ from those of England, the UKSG rules will take precedence.
The date for selection will be the 1st March 10 but may be earlier if the rankings cannot change (see below). The team must be announced (with 1 reserve per event) by 1st April 10. At this point the fencers must complete their entry onto the UK School Games Event Management System.
There are 4 fencers allowed per event, these must be the same fencers for the individual & team events.
Selection for the first 2 places will be done from the U20 ranking list used for selecting the British team for the world championships (providing these 2 fencers are in the top 75% of the list)
Selection for the 3rd & 4th place will be made by selectors in each home country. Where fencers have not been selected for the first two places from the U20 ranking list by default, these two places will also be allocated by the selectors.
The selectors reserve the right to omit a fencer from selection if they deem that fencer’s disciplinary record to be unsatisfactory.
The England Team Manager for the UKSG will be Eileen Buist.
