MESSAGE TO BDF MEMBERS FROM LIV CORBISHLEY & GEORGINA USHER

Liv Corbishley, Independent Chair of BDF and Georgina Usher, Chief Executive of British Fencing, recently sent an email to BDF members regarding the current process of transfer of responsibilities between BDF and BF.

As sent by email:

Dear BDF Member,

We recently shared with you results of the online survey to summarise your views on the proposed transfer of delivery responsibilities from BDF to BF. This can be viewed here. We highlighted that there was strong support for the proposal from both BDF and BF members who responded to the survey.

We made reference to a set of FAQs that was being developed to respond to your queries and questions and this can now be found here.

We hope it helps to address any observations you may have but should you wish clarification on any matter, please address the Project Manager, Jackie Bryson ([email protected]).

Since our last communication, both Boards have now met and agreed to move into phase 2, the stage that primarily focuses on drawing up the legal transfer between BDF and BF. As we stated in our previous email, during this time the delivery activities of BDF are paused. Behind the scenes, there is lots of activity happening as we prepare for the transfer, which includes everything from considering how we develop Para-fencing in clubs to working with EIS and UKS on the support BF will be required to give to the WCP. Sport England have continued to invest in this proposal, with funding towards legal and project management costs.

BDF AGM: Liv Corbishley:

You will be aware of the postponement of the BDF AGM. Since then I have been working with the BDF lawyers who are helping us prepare for the transfer. They have advised us that there is no requirement to hold an AGM for BDF.  The BDF Board is, however, keen to hear if any of our members wish one to be held, in which case this will be scheduled for the end of March. Please let me know at your earliest convenience, and no later than Wednesday 22nd February, if you would prefer us to hold an AGM so arrangements can be made. Please email me directly([email protected]).

BF engagement event: Georgina Usher:

As included in the FAQs (response to question 18), we are keen that BDF members can shape and influence BF’s activities and would like to invite you to attend a BF engagement event on Wednesday 23rd March to find out how you can get involved.

The details are as follows:

  • Session 1: 6.00-7.00pm, aimed at those existing people in BDF who currently deliver to para-fencers and who may be interested in contributing to a Workforce Advisory Group
  • Session 2: 7.30-8.30pm, aimed at those BDF athlete member fencers and their parents/carers not involved in the WCP who might want to join the Athlete Advisory Group.

I will lead these sessions. I imagine there will be an element of overlap between each but the Project Manager, Jackie, will produce notes for each which we’ll circulate to all BDF Members. Please keep a watch for the email invitations.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we move closer to embedding Para-fencing within BF. We hope you are as excited as we are about the opportunities this presents.

Best regards,

Liv and Georgina
