Great Britain’s team of Soji Aiyenuro, Harry Boteler, Curtis Miller and Jonathan Webb joined a field of 26 teams in the Men’s Team Sabre event.  Ranked 16th, they faced the 17th seeds in the round of 32, China.  China started fast and never looked back winning 45-23.

The event was won by an impressive Hungarian team who beat Germany 45-37 in the final.  Hungary’s team (Csaba, Szatmari, Valkai and reserve Ravasz) started slowly against the German’s (Hubers, Kindler, Lehnert and reserve Schrodter) but fought back to 25-23 down after two legs of the nine-leg reply.  On came Szatmari and in an incredible display of highly entertaining fencing he took the Hungarians in a 30-28 lead – a lead they never lost.  A richly deserved World Championship title was theirs.  The bronze medal went to the Russian team who beat Belarus 45-39.
