Aliya Itzkowitz first tried fencing at an after school program when she was 8 years old. She started out with foil but soon switched over to the sabre which suited her love for speed. Her first International appearance for Great Britain was in 2007 when she came 3rd at a Competition in France. After that she had caught the bug. She would go on to a successful Cadet & Junior Career winning three international medals: Two Silvers and a Bronze. In the UK, Aliya was a Cadet and Junior National Champion in the same year in 2011. One Year Later, fencing led her to America where she decided to pursue a University Degree. From 2012-2016 Aliya attended Harvard where she was captain of the Varsity Fencing Team. She won the silver medal at the NCAA Fencing Championships in 2014. After graduating with honors in 2016, Aliya took a job in Finance in New York City. Despite 13-hour work days her love for the sport pulled her back in and she started fencing again. In 2017 she returned to the International stage, earning a Top 32 finish and cementing her place on the British Team. This year, she returns to London where she is looking forward concentrating on training and working hard towards her Olympic aspirations.
