The EFC Equality and Diversity Commission was recently established in order to create a more inclusive environment for fencing in Europe. One of their aims is to increase participation across Europe in all areas, including fencers, coaches, volunteers, referees and administration. The Commission is also working to highlight the physical and mental benefits of fencing, highlighting the transformative nature of the sport in order to further participation.

Pat Aiyenuro is the President of BF, elected in October 2024, as well as a member of the newly-established EFC Equality and Diversity Commission. Last month, Pat organised a workshop in London for the Commission, which was attended by the President of the EFC, Pascal Tesch, and other Commission members. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Commission members to work together on the EFC’s Equality and Diversity strategy, with clear objectives for the four years ahead.

At the EFC Congress held just before the Senior European Championships in Genoa, Pat Aiyenuro updated the Congress on the Commission’s work plan.

This was a great opportunity to introduce the Equality and Diversity Commission members to delegates from around Europe and to highlight the importance of equality and diversity in fencing. It was also a chance to raise awareness of equality and diversity in the European fencing community and to demonstrate our commitment to making change.

Afterwards, Pat Aiyenuro said:

“It was my pleasure to present on behalf of the Commission to such an engaging audience. I look forward to working with Commission members and other European fencing federations on executing our action plan over the next few years.”
