BF is mindful of the rising costs of attending fencing events and the potential barrier to participation this creates for some members of our community.
The Entry Fee Support Scheme offers a limited number of free entries to BF events. Places are offered based on financial need, not on ability, and cover 100% of the entry fee cost.
The Entry Fee Support Scheme is in place for the following BF Championship events:
The Entry Fee Support Scheme has been constructed based on existing financial assistance schemes within the sporting sector, using means-tested criteria to enable fencers from a lower socio-economic background entry to events.
You can apply by using the online application form for each event on the events webpage.
Applications close two weeks before the event entry deadline to allow for entry after receiving the outcome of the application.
The winners of the 2023-24 BF Community Awards have been announced. See below some of this year’s winners along with a quote from each winner on what winning the award means to them.
Congratulations to Paul Davis Fencing Academy, who win Club of the Year as part of the 2023-24 BF Community Awards!
“As Academy Director, I would like to share how honoured we are to receive the British Fencing Club of the Year Award for the second year running. At Paul Davis Fencing Academy, we believe that it is not just about what you get but who you become. This award is a reflection of our philosophy that individual success is a team triumph. We look forward to using this recognition as a foundation to build a more engaged, inspired, and empowered community, where every member can thrive together.”
Congratulations to Swindon Fencing Club, who win the Viveca Abrahams Memorial Award as part of the 2023-24 BF Community Awards!
“On behalf of Swindon Fencing Club, we are delighted to receive this prestigious award, which reflects BF’s recognition of all the hard work and commitment by our coaches, over the past five years, resulting in almost 5,000 children discovering fencing in Swindon and the local area. We’ve only just started and can’t wait to share our sport with many, many more children and young people so we can grow fencing into the mass participation sport that it should be. Thank you, British Fencing.”
Congratulations to Thomas Nipress, who wins the Outstanding Contribution by a Volunteer Award as part of the 2023-24 BF Community Awards!
“Incredibly honoured to receive this award from a community of passionate and dedicated people. Fencing is for everyone and there for anyone to engage and enjoy to reach their own potential.”

Since its launch in 2022, We Are Forging Futures has gone from strength to strength. With 49 current school partners and exceptional feedback from participants and staff alike, BF’s educational brand has had a brilliant impact on both primary and secondary education across the UK and beyond.
We Are Forging Futures emphasises personal development, using fencing as a means of building children’s resilience and self efficacy. We Are Forging Futures is designed to appeal to all children, whether or not they consider themselves as ‘sporty’.
We Are Forging Futures presents a great opportunity for clubs and schools to engage with each other, signposting activity, to get more young people involved in fencing. After children try fencing in a We Are Forging Futures-partnered school, they may look for clubs in their local area where they can continue to develop their skills. Clubs can see the schools in their area here.
