My Coaching Philosophy
Using a Constraints Led Approach to developing athletes with a process focus where outcomes are a result of the process, not a driver of the programme. My aim is to create an environment where players and athletes can build confidence, resilience and character. I am “Data Informed” and “Research Led” in my coaching and have experience of working with elite athletes across a range of individual and team sports. I have been a part of multidisciplinary teams which developed elite athletes to achieve medal success at international junior and senior championships.

My coaching career has developed and progressed over the years, using many and varied CPD choices to gain specific knowledge across the core areas of coaching, including Psychology, S&C, Nutrition, and Pedagogy of Skill Acquisition, both inside Fencing and Modern Pentathlon, as well as outside in more traditional sports such as Football, Rugby Union, and Hockey. I hold an MSc in Advanced Sport and Coaching Practice from Sheffield Hallam University, which was a part of the UKCC level 4 course for Judo.

My experience of supporting and running major championships (3x European, 1x Worlds, and an Olympic Games) as well as numerous World Cups, and World Cup Finals has given me the ability to see sport from many angles. I have attended 3 world coaches conferences, and numerous academic sports research conferences, and have used the knowledge gained to develop as both an academic and practitioner in sports research and coaching, and have become a sports coaching “pracademic”.

Coach development, relationships and knowledge transfer are areas where I am keen to continue researching to develop myself and others within and outside of the sport.

I am a coach developer for British Fencing, and an Assessor/Tutor on fencing’s DiSE programme.
