Below are the current referee requirements for EFC and FIE fencing competitions.
Last updated: 28th November 2024
British Fencing is responsible for sourcing referees for nominated EFC and FIE competitions, EFC U23 events, and FIE satellites.
For other EFC and FIE competitions, including EFC Under 14 events, it is the responsibility of the fencers attending to source a referee. Entry requests to enter these competitions can be submitted using this link.
The tables below outline the current referee requirements for these competitions and who is responsible for sourcing referees for these competitions.
You can see the current entries for these events here. The fencers responsible for sourcing the referees are highlighted in red italics. Those accountable for sourcing referees (for example, the 4th fencer attending an EFC event) are notified by email that they need to source a referee and need to inform BF by email to [email protected] once they have sourced a referee so they can be entered on the EFC or FIE system.
The EFC Under 14 circuit is still relatively new, and BF has noticed some discrepancies in referee requirements from competition to competition. However, the referee requirements typically follow the EFC referee requirements outlined below. BF recommends reading the relevant invitation on the EFC calendar, including the referee requirements, before submitting an entry request for an EFC Under 14 competition.
Number of fencers | Referee requirement | Who is responsible for sourcing the referee? |
1 – 3 fencers | No referee required | N/A |
4 – 9 fencers | One referee | The 4th fencer who enters the competition |
10 – 15 fencers | Two referees | The 10th fencer who enters the competition |
16 – 20 fencers | Three referees | The 16th fencer who enters the competition |
Fines: For each missing referee, this would incur a fine of 500 Euros per event.
