The Explore Fencing App was specifically designed and created for British Fencing and We Are Forging Futures partners, allowing them to manage the app’s backend efficiently.
This capability is crucial for sustainability, ongoing maintenance, and tailoring the app to meet the evolving needs of partners, ultimately enhancing the delivery of community fencing programmes to participants.
Traditionally, British Fencing conducted one or two-day courses to upskill coaches, providing them with essential tools to engage participants. However, the challenge was the potential regression of coaches to their initial competence and confidence levels without continued support. With the Explore Fencing App, this issue is addressed head-on.
Since 2016, British Fencing has been actively listening to and responding to partners’ needs, continuously developing resources to expand its influence in community sports. Contrary to the stereotype, fencing is highly popular at the community level, which is evident from the data collected from partners.
Successful partners demonstrate higher participant numbers by leveraging better “how” skills and integrating themed or swordplay elements into their delivery.
This subtle yet impactful difference in delivery is where the Explore Fencing App makes a significant contribution. The app demystifies fencing for beginners and provides coaches with structured games and learning outcomes. Its interactive elements, created by top-tier British Fencing experts, are designed to enhance the “how” skills crucial for effective and inclusive of fencing.
British Fencing is also in the process of rolling out the “We Are Forging Futures ‘How’ Training.” This programme will guide partners on utilising the Resilience and Self-efficacy lesson plans, how to access and use the App and Achievement Awards.
To ensure the network of partners do not just use it as a PE/Sport activity, but get on brand to We Are Forging Futures and use it as a personal development tool – soon to trial an employability programme with selected and interested partners.
Access the desktop version of the app and start with basic moves, or try out our favourite game, Step Lunge.
