OPEN WHEELCHAIR FENCING AT THE BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wheelchair fencing is truly open at the British Open Championships on the 5th and 6th July 2025. Try a fencing competition focusing on the skill at hand and fast-paced blade work – no classification or disability required.

BF is aware that not everyone who wants to fence sitting down is currently classified or is interested or able to be classified under the Paralympics system, but we don’t want that to stop people from being able to take part in the sport.

If you have always been fascinated by wheelchair fencing, but aren’t a wheelchair user day-to-day, the British Open Championships is your opportunity.

At the British Open Championships, we have fencing for everyone. You can join the wheelchair competition in any of the three weapons, and BF will have an RMA fencing wheelchair available to borrow for bouts (please contact us if you have any more kit requirements to take part).

The format used will be published after entries have closed.

Two fencers in wheelchiars facing off against each other, a banner with the British Fencing logo is in the background, both fencers are wearing GBR branded kit and the one to the right of the image is in a long lunge securing a point against their opponent who is leaning back out of the way.

The event takes place on 5th-6th July 2025 at the EIS Sheffield, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, S9 5DA. For more information, click here: 2025 British Open Championships

Why not come and compete? Everyone is welcome, and you may even get the opportunity to fence against some of the best in Britain – and learn so much more about your capabilities.
