VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2025: LILY WILLIAMS

In celebration of Volunteers’ Week 2025, we asked members of our community to nominate a volunteer who has made a difference to them. Today’s spotlight is on Lily Williams.

Lily Williams is a fencer who regularly volunteers at her club.

“Lily Williams joined our school in Year 5 and was already fencing. Her enthusiasm for and talent in fencing led to us entering her into the IAPS National U11 Fencing Championships, which she won (Girls U11 Foil). Off the back of this and discussions with her club – Fighting Fit Fencing – a club was started here at Stormont School. This club is before school with a 7.30am start time, so requires real commitment. Lily offered to volunteer at this club and has been committed to it for a full year.

“She comes in early and really inspires the other girls who are fencing for the first time. She helps with kit and equipment, helps girls to understand the rules and is so supportive of her peers and the younger girls at the club.

“In Year 6, full of entrance exams and lots of homework, Lily’s commitment to volunteering and inspiring the other girls is really commendable. Lily represented Stormont this year again at U11 IAPS Girls Foil and won again! Her friend, Josie in Year 6, went along too and placed 5th, which is outstanding.”
