MAY 2025 COMMUNITY DISCUSSION EVENTS

Upcoming Community Discussions to be held on Tuesday 27th May for Event Organisers and Wednesday 28th May for Coaches.

Event Organisers – Tuesday 27th May

In the upcoming Community Discussion on Tuesday 27th May at 12pm and 6pm, we invite all Event Organisers to join to discuss the topics below:

Recreational Events

How to licence your recreational event.

The table below shows key characteristics of a recreational event. If your event meets the category requirement, you could apply for a recreational licence.

 

 

Recreational Events 
Format Non-traditional formats – e.g. multiple rounds of poules, max 3 hits, mixed teams based on the needs of the local community.
Competition Experience  Likely to be perceived as an event where the emphasis and primary goal is the fun and enjoyment of all participants equally.

Little or no knowledge of ‘competition’ rules expected, referees supporting participants to learn rules.

Event Timings  Fixed start and end times, and all participants involved from start to finish.

Mixture of activities, individual and team, ‘battles’, different team formats – focus is on fun and enjoyment, keeping participants active and developing skills.

Including holiday camps and training camps.

Rankings and Event Title  Could include wording such as ‘beginners’ ‘novices’.

Does not contribute to any rankings.

 

Support and Refereeing  Little or no knowledge of ‘competition’ rules expected, referees supporting participants to learn rules.

Supporters (eg coaches and parents) encouraging everyone to take part and have fun.

Summer Camps

Running a camp – advice for affiliated clubs, including how to license a summer camp, membership requirements for attendees and registered Coaches and Welfare Officers for the event.

Coaches – Wednesday 28th 6pm

In this event, we invite coaches thinking about taking the next steps in their coaching journey to join educators Graham Stretton and Dr Jonathan Katz, along with BF Coaching & Workforce Development Manager Chris Turner, to discuss the following:

Coaching Fencing Level 2 (CFL2)

Course involvement and how it differs to Introduction To Coaching Fencing (ITCF).

Weapon Specific Level 3 (WSL3)

Course involvement and how it differs to CFL2.
