TEAM MANAGER COURSES

Domestic Team Manager Training

Fully online, on-demand training. Currently, this course is being offered free of charge to BF members.

International Team Manager Training

Currently, this course is being offered free of charge to British Fencing members and coaches.

A minimum of three people are required to run the International Training module. The maximum number per course is twelve.

Core Coach is now open for small community organisations or individuals to book onto.

Coach Development Week – 20-24th July 2026 Stratford-upon-Avon

  • Level 3 20th-24th July 2026
  • Online ITCF 20th July 2026
  • Level 2 21st-24th July 2026

Online Introduction to Coaching Fencing (ITCF) is a hybrid version of the 2-day ITCF course. Candidates should expect to dedicate approximately 8 hours to completing the theoretical modules, which are available on the  BF Learning Zone platform.

After submitting their assignments, participants will receive individual feedback from a Coach Developer and complete their preparation for the practical session.  Click here to find out more about the hybrid format.
This course also enables progression directly onto the Weapon-Specific Level 2 course at the same venue.

The Coaching Fencing Level 2 (CFL2) focuses on delivering individual lessons. The course is based on a modular approach with a combination of theoretical and practical content. The course consists of: 4 days on course delivery (32 hours) plus ½ day home study – approx. 35 hours.

Weapon-Specific Level 3 (WSL3) This course was developed for coaches with fencers that are taking part in regular competitions, moving from a development phase to a performance phase. The course will look at effective coaching within group sessions and will explore different lesson types, with a wider tactical and technical content.

SWORD IN HAND COACHING CPD OPPORTUNITIES

Continual Professional Development (CPD) is now being supported through running dedicated CPD workshops designed to support and enhance coaches’ coaching skills focused on the technical coaching HOW skills.

BF training is free to access, although BF will not provide accommodation/food or cover travel costs.

If you are thinking of stepping into coaching, these days are a great way to get a taster, meet fellow coaches and our Fencing Development Team who can support you.

BF ADVANCED COACHING PROGRAMME & UK COACHING FOCUS PROGRAMME

ADVANCED COACHING PROGRAMME

Applications for cohort four are now open.

The aim of BF’s Advanced Coaching Programme is to support the growth of our coaches through the exploration of their own coaching philosophy, reflective practice and values as well providing an opportunity to explore performance, athlete and season planning. Other subject areas covered by the programme are skill acquisition, session design and deepening the understanding of the coach and athlete pathway philosophy and the responsibilities of the coaches within it.


UK COACHING FOCUS PROGRAMME

The Focus Coaching Programme is a UK Coaching development offer intended to support coaches to better understand their coaching practice, with a focus on performance planning, coaching behaviour, practice design and goal setting.

SAFEGUARD WELFARE & UNIVERSITY WELFARE OFFICER COURSE

Before choosing a course make sure it is the right one for you and the environments you are working in. Welfare Training Requirements.

Those based in Scotland should attend sportscotland Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Training (CWP) training delivered by sportscotland and sportscotland Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer Training (CWPO).

SafeGuard Welfare Officer Training

A course designed for people who have a designated role in safeguarding within a fencing setting (Club Welfare Officer). CWOs will need to complete the Core training in order to be fully registered.  Learn more.

SafeGuard University Welfare Officer Training

A bespoke course tailored to address the unique aspects of university clubs. The University Welfare Officer (UWO) supports, along with others, the welfare and safety of individuals within the university setting. This course is for university fencers or club committee members. Coaches can also attend, but are required to do SafeGuard Core for registration. Click here to view the Coach Register requirements.

The current learning outcomes for the course include:

  • Identify what a University Welfare Officer does.
  • Describe how a University Welfare Officer works with others to create a positive culture.
  • Outline responsibilities for adults at risk.
  • Increase awareness of mental health concerns.
  • Explain how the club welfare officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment.
  • Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practices.

Level 2 refereeing courses are managed by the Home Countries apart from England. When BF is informed of any courses, they will be published here. To promote and register your Level 2 refereeing course, please complete this form.
