The GBR Pathway Programme

Last updated: 21st May 2026

The GBR Pathway Programme exists to nurture and retain talented athletes, ensuring a continuous pipeline of world-class fencers while keeping those who exit the pathway engaged in the sport.

The GBR Pathway Programme has an aspiration to:

– Identify and develop a generation of athletes who are competitive on the international stage
– Provide a developmental pathway which enhances skills, knowledge and behaviours to be successful on and off the piste
– Encourage athletes to play a full and active role in the fencing community
– Through being a safe, fun, and welcoming talent environment.

The Pathway is founded on the strategic principles of being fencer-centred, development-driven, and competition-supported, and is for athletes who are moving through a defined development pathway to success at the highest level of fencing.

*Note: the Paralympic (Wheelchair) Fencing World Class Programme is now operated by BF, having transitioned from UKSI in June 2025. The BF GBR Pathway Programme continues to provides aligned talent pathway activities across wheelchair and standing fencing.
