BF Welfare Officer Training

BF Welfare Officer Training is BF’s Club Welfare Officer training programme. It has been developed specifically for people who have a designated role in safeguarding within a fencing setting.  The course is interactive with group activities and discussions and will help club and event Welfare Officers to understand their role and their safeguarding responsibilities

Please note in Scotland there is also the option to attend In Safe Hands 1&2.


Who is the course for? 

  • Essential training for any club or event Welfare Officer.
  • Useful information for Team Managers.


This course aims to:

  • Describe how a club or event Welfare Officer works with others to create a child centred environment
  • Explain how the club Welfare Officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment
  • Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practice
  • Examine the role of a Welfare Officer and how they fit into the wider safeguarding agenda.


Entry level requirements:

  • 18 years of age and above
  • SafeGuard Core

Club Welfare Officers should make sure they have access to their club reporting procedures during the session.

Please note that whilst passing this course will make you a fully qualified Club Welfare Officer for fencing it will not be transferable to other environments.
