Following an extensive recruitment process, supported by UK Sport, British Fencing is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrey Klyushin as the new Head Coach.  Andrey will provide the technical leadership to the British Fencing World Class Programme from Talent Identification and Confirmation through to the Podium Programme.

Klyushin will use his elite coaching experience to provide performance standards to athletes, WCP coaches and the wider coaching community.  This will include the development and implementation of training, competition and integrated individual athlete performance plans.  This is a critical role for the British Fencing if the Programme is going to be able to consistently deliver medal winning performances at significant international competitions.

His appointment, which will begin in October, will establish and drive a no compromise culture of best practice and continuous improvement by constructively challenging athletes, coaches and programme staff to achieve the highest performance outcomes.

Commenting on his appointment, Klyushin said “One of the key things that attracted me to the position is the great potential I see within fencing in Britain.  With the solid foundations for a performance programme already put in place I have great expectations and I am sure we will perform very well together.”

Alex Newton Performance Director said, “This is a great appointment for British Fencing and I am delighted to be working with Andrey.  He has a great pedigree and I’m certain his appointment will provide the technical and tactical knowledge to further develop our programme.  I feel we have now put in place a Performance Team that can take our athletes to a whole new level and consistently achieve medal winning results.”

Welcoming the appointment, British Fencing Chief Executive Peter King said “British Fencing is delighted to have appointed Andrey as our new Head Coach and he will make a massive contribution to our performance strategy going forward.”
