Volunteers will have the best seats in the house at the European Fencing Championship 2011

Organisers of this year’s European Fencing Championships are looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles at the event being held in Sheffield in July.  With a daily requirement of 200 volunteers per day Rochelle Dazeley (a British Fencing volunteer), who is leading the volunteer team, is pleased that over 130 people from the UK and Europe have already registered.

“Our volunteers will be trained up to fulfil a variety of roles including, Piste Assistant, Stewarding, Wheelchair Assistant, Armoury and a variety of administration roles.  As well as ensuring that the event runs smoothly our volunteers will get a ringside seat for the event.”  Dazley added, “My aim, as well as creating a core group of BF volunteers for the future, is to ensure that the volunteers feel very much part of the championships by working hard but having fun at the same time.  I would like all those involved in this event, whether they be volunteers, competitors, delegations, spectators, referees or organisers, to look back on it as a friendly championships.”

With just over two months to go before the event organisers are in the final stages of preparation and are on target to welcome Europe’s finest fencing teams to Sheffield.  John Timms, Event Director, added, “The European Senior Fencing Championships 2011 promises to be an excellent event for volunteers.  Our volunteers will come from both the fencing community and from those local to Sheffield leaving a lasting legacy for the sport and Yorkshire.”
