Oxfordshire, 8-11 September

A team of coaches and athletes led by Event Coordinator, Katie Dolan, successfully delivered demonstrations and taster sessions at this year Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials over four days, 8-11th September.

This is the third year in a row that fencing has been show cased at this event and the second year that British Fencing’s overheads have been covered by 2012 sponsor BT.  Working with British Handball and Volleyball England, British Fencing gave an insight to the sport to over 2,000 people.  In partnership with Oxfordshire Sports Partnership, we were also able to give taster sessions to over 300 local school children on the Friday of the event.

Speaking after the event, Katie Dolan said, “It was an amazing setting to deliver taster sessions and the team worked incredibly hard.  We were provided with a great fencing specific reaction game which was very addictive and popular with the general public.”

Chief Executive, Piers Martin, who joined the team on Friday and Saturday, added, “It’s important that we make the most of this type of event and ensure that we convert those that try the sport into active participants.  Thanks to supporters we were able to provide an even better event than last year.”

The delivery team who worked with Katie included, Tom Bennett, Gareth Thomas, Rob Partridge, David Buist, Mary Cohen, Jack Boteler, Francine Robb, Ben Peggs and Marcus Mepstead
