British Fencing reluctantly drops senior international

British Fencing has decided not to host the Beazley Trophy Women’s Sabre A-Grade from next season (2013/14).  Although the number of entries in this event has been consistently high the cost of running the event to FIE specification and to the world class standard to which British Fencing aspires makes the event uneconomic. The generous Beazley sponsorship has been redirected to developing grass roots fencing.
David Teasdale, Chair of British Fencing, said; “We deliberated this matter over a long period of time and reluctantly came to the conclusion that it was no longer financially viable for us to continue running this event to the highest standards.  We are proud to have hosted this event for so many years and we will continue to proudly host the Eden Cup Junior Men’s Foil event.  Our best wishes go to Senegal who have been selected to replace us as hosts.”
