FIE Update: September 2021

FIE confirms cancellation of 2021 Veteran World Championships, updated COVID-19 risk mitigation requirements, and more..

Key points/highlights taken from the FIE communication – please read the full communication here:

1.      World Rankings

The 2021-2022 season has begun and despite some tournament cancellations, competitions are resuming. Consequently, the rankings and points will be progressively normalised and updated, in application of the corresponding articles o.108 and o.109 of the rules.

2.      Resuming competitions

  • Risk Mitigation Plan Revised (for organisers and participants) – outline is available on the FIE website at:
    https://fie.org/fie/documents/other-documents
  • A subsidy will be provided to each competition organiser to pay for rapid tests to be carried out on-site, on arrival of all participants.
  • For this season, it has been decided that wireless will be optional at Grand Prix events.

3.      World Veterans’ Championships 2021

Considering all the parameters and information available, and the unpredictability of the world situation, restrictions, and conditions to be in force in January 2022, it was felt that a postponement to January was not viable. Therefore, it was unfortunately necessary to make the decision to cancel the upcoming Veteran World Championships.

4.      World Veterans’ Championships 2022

The 2022 Veteran World Championships will be held in Zadar, from 6 to 12 October 2022.
