GBR World Cadet Championships, Torun 2019

Last season there was a decision to send full squads to the Cadet Worlds to provide development opportunities.  10 fencers were selected on that basis using  discretionary places.  This season there are a number of fencers that have not achieved the level of performance to present the case for a discretionary place.  Based on current results, it was felt a discretionary place would potentially be detrimental to the fencers’ development in the longer term and would devalue the excellent performances achieved by those fencers that have qualified directly.

However, due to the variability of some results, it was felt that fencers could have one further opportunity to demonstrate the level of performance that would provide confidence that selection for the Worlds is  suitable for their development.

Therefore, places will be filled for the GBR Cadet Worlds team in line with the selection policy as follows:

1) Qualified directly

2) Selected now via a discretionary place

3) Where places remain, further discretionary places *may* be offered to fencers who achieve suitable performance levels at the European Championships.

BF is delighted to announce the following selections for the upcoming Cadet  World Championships which will be held in Torun, Poland,  from 6th  to 14th April  2019.  Congratulations to all the athletes and their coaches.
