Evans, Lonsdale & Rhys Pollitt Impress in Hungary
Cameron Evans, William Lonsdale & Rafael Rhys Pollitt lined up as Great Britain 1 for the EFC Cadet Men’s Foil team circuit event in Hungary’s capital this weekend. Ranked thirteenth going into the event they achieved a remarkable bronze medal finish, beating some top teams on the way.
Their ranking meant they had a bye through the round of 64, with a total of 49 teams lining up for the event. They went on to beat Singapore 45-23, the Czech Republic 45-20 and Italy 3 45-28 before losing to Japan 1, 45-31 in the semi-finals. They faced a strong Poland team for bronze but all three fenced very well to secure a 44-43 victory at the end of regulation time.
A spokesperson at the event said, “All three athletes applied themselves brilliantly and represented GBR with great pride throughout the day. Special mention to head coach Chris Galesloot and Dominique Szokolovics for their incredible support during the day.”
