Laurence Halsted wins Copenhagen Men’s Foil Satellite Event

Laurence Halsted put in an impressive performance this weekend at the Copenhagen Satellite event – winning the final 15-2 – improving on the bronze medal that he won at this event last year.

Now based in Copenhagen, Halsted dropped one of his five first round fights leaving him ranked tenth for the elimination stages.  Victories over Guler (TUR) 15-7, Lim (CAN) 15-7, Daraban (ROM) 15-4 and Berg (DEN) 15-9 ensured that he would equal his result last year.  Sensing victory though and fencing well, Halsted stormed through his semi-final opponent, Babaoglu (TUR) 15-2.  He faced the number one seed, Alexander Tsoronis (DEN) in the gold medal match and a stunning 15-2 victory took him to the title.

Speaking about his performance, Laurence said; “It certainly was a brilliant day for me where everything just felt completely in my control.  I had some fights that I was conscious could be pretty tough and then everything worked so well.  I feel very pleased with this and my result from St Petersburg going into the next Grand Prix in Shanghai and I’m also very much looking forward to the European Championships too.”
