Senior international season continues in Tauber as Sheffield hosts Cole Cup
Tauberbischofsheim Women’s Foil World Cup
Katie Smith, Philippa Mullins and Kate Beardmore represented Great Britain at the individual event in Tauber amongst a field of one hundred and fifty-five. None of them were able to do enough in the first round to qualify for the preliminary knockout stages.
Lee Kiefer (USA) extended her lead at the top of the world rankings by claiming the title in Germany, beating Arianna Errigo (ITA) in the final. Inna Deriglazova (RUS) shared the bronze medal position with Carolin Golubystkyi (GER).
Italy topped the table in the team event with sixteen countries taking part in total. They beat Germany in the final as France collected the bronze medal by beating Russia in the play-off.

Sheffield Women’s Epee Satellite – “Cole Cup”
Forty women entered this event including nineteen from Great Britain. It was a good day for the host nation as Danielle Lawson won the event by beating Jessica Gundry in the final. Katrina Smith made it three Brits from four on the podium, sharing the bronze medal with Olga Mizera (POL).
Lawson took five victories from five fights in the first round in a poule with Gundry who just dropped the one fight against her country fellow. Smith, who shared a poule with the other medallist, Mizera (POL), took four victories from six. Lawson went on to beat Walker (GBR) 15-13, Nesbitt (GBR) 15-5 and Henson (GBR) 15-13 to secure a place in the semi-finals against Smith who had taken out Hoshko (URK) 15-9, Lawrence (GBR) 15-9 and Rahardja (SIN) 15-12. Gundry’s progress saw her defeat Hindsgaul (DEN) 15-6, Johnson (IRL) 15-5 and Kica (POL) 15-9.
Both semi-finals finished 15-11 as Lawson defeated Smith and Gundry beat Mizera (POL). Lawson went on to win 15-8 in the final against Gundry.
