Itzkowitz makes 64 in Tunis

Men’s Epee – Paris World Cup

Five British fencers took part in the latest World Cup on the Men’s Epee circuit last weekend amongst a massive field of two hundred and ninety-nine.  Greg Allen (V2D4) was the only one to qualify for the preliminary knockout stage as Paul Sanchez Lethem (V2D4), Owen Jordan (V2D4), Callum Johnston (V2D4) and Christopher Rocks (V1D5) were eliminated at the poule stage.

Allen lost the first of three preliminary fights 15-9 to Allegre (FRA).  Marco Fichera (ITA) won the event, beating Yannick Borel (FRA) in the final as Koki Kano (JPN) and Karol Kostka (POL) shared the bronze medal position.

Great Britain was not one of the thirty teams competing on Sunday.  Korea won the event, beating Italy in the final.  Japan beat Ukraine in the third place play-off.

Women’s Sabre – Tunis World Cup

Just two British fencers lined up in a field of one hundred and fourteen at the latest Women’s Sabre World Cup at the weekend.  Aliya Itzkowitz (V3D3) qualified for the preliminary knockout stage but Jessica Corby (V0D5) did not.  Itzkowitz went on to beat Lucchino (ITA) 15-14 to make the round of 64 where she lost 15-9 to Muhammad (USA).

Olga Kharlan (UKR) won the event by beating Anna Marton (HUN) in the final.  Manon Brunet and Yana Egorian (RUS) collected the bronze medals.

The fifteen countries entered into the team event did not include one from Great Britain.  Italy won the gold medal match against Poland as France beat Japan in the bronze medal play-off.
