The British Fencing National Academy is now into its second full year, nearly 400 fencers have benefitted from the expertise of a wide variety of coaches. Nearly 40 fencing coaches and 35 others sports experts have been involved over the past few years. The common aim is to prepare British fencers for future international success.

Recent Developments
British Fencing has set up an informal cooperation group with the German & French federations, this has given us invitations to send our cadet team to an epee training camp in Germany, a foil training camp in France and to host these national teams at the National Academy training in Nottingham.
Six epee fencers are travelling to Tauberbischofsheim with World Championships & National Academy coach, Jamie Miller. Congratulations to these fencers & their coaches for this selection. The fencers are: Eleanor Cormack, Aml Sinclair, Lydia Stanier, Oliver Steed, Francesca Summers, Georgina Summers
The French national teams at men’s & women’s sabre will be taking part in the National Academy Summer pre-season at Nottingham Trent University.
British Fencing and the National Academy will send 8 fencers and a coach to a foil training camp in Lille towards the end of August.
We’re delighted to be able to announce that we now have 6 regional centres delivering the National Academy programme. These are in Birmingham, Bristol, Brunel, Northern Ireland, Scotland and SUNEE (Sports Universities North East England). AASE is a Level 3 qualification based around an NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance; designed for fencers who have the realistic potential to achieve excellence and are seeking to perform at the highest level. Delivered through the National Academy the programme will cover all areas of your fencing. This innovative and exciting sporting excellence programme will help you to develop as an athlete and fencer as well as gain a nationally recognised qualification.
AASE is notionally a 2 year programme for fencers aged16-18 on the 1st September 2012. They can be studying other academic qualifications at a school or college of further education. Fencers must have completed their GSCE level qualifications and cannot combine AASE with University education or other Level 4 qualification. So fencers will normally start AASE at the beginning of year 12.
There is also a full-time AASE fencing course available at South Gloucestershire & Stroud College (formerly Filton College) in Bristol. Details on the expression of interest form.
