Three Newly Qualified British Referees start to make their mark

Congratulations to Britain and Ireland’s latest crop of young referees who have passed their FIE exams, held at the Cadet and Junior European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.  Ireland’s Sarah Steacy, a refereeing fixture at British Fencing’s major domestic events has qualified as an epee referee, Luke Deamer has qualified in foil and Patrick Jennings has passed his sabre exams.  Three newly qualified referees on the international circuit is fabulous news for them and British Fencing and we send each of them our congratulations.

Including the three referees that qualified at the Eden Cup in December, British Fencing have now had six newly qualified FIE referees in the 2016/17 season – all of whom are participants of the Referee Pathway Program.

Adrian Speakman, who has held his qualification for some time now was also selected by the European Fencing Confederation to referee at the Under-23 European Championships – to be held in Minsk, Belarus, 20-25 April. Many congratulations to him too.

The EFC have asked the home federations to send in submissions for referees that wish to apply to attend the Senior European Championships to be held in Tbilisi, Georgia, 12-16 June 2017. More information about the tournament can be found here, http://www.euchamp2017.geofencing.ge/.
