British Fencing is committed to driving up the quality of refereeing within the UK.
 
Internationally it is customary to pay day rates set by the FIE and EFC of up to 100 euros to FIE qualified referees and we acknowledge that referees have chosen to referee for other countries for this reason.
 
We currently have a shortage of FIE qualified referees willing to referee for Great Britain and this could ultimately lead to fines or limiting squad numbers.
 
We have reviewed our policy and we will in future be offering FIE qualified referees the opportunity to be paid a small fee for refereeing internationally on behalf of British Fencing.
 
In return those referees will be expected to referee at major competitions within the UK.
