Talent Assessment Days

July was a busy month for assessing talent across the weapons.  With men’s foil already announced, we had men’s and women’s sabre first, followed at the end of the month by women’s foil and men’s and women’s epee.

Across all of the days we have tested 83 athletes, no mean feat for our team of sport scientists, coaches and personal coaches, so well done to all those involved.  The athletes were tested across a number of key areas including; lessons, footwork, sparring, physical fitness and medical.

We are pleased to announce the sabre athletes that have been selected onto the two WC talent programmes.

Talent Programme Athletes

Talent Identification & Confirmation (TIC) Programme Athletes
Eden Amsalam
Chris Lawrence
Joshua Maxwell
Fraser Woodburn
Shreya Anil
Laura Gladdish

Our TIC Programme is the first level of our World Class Performance Pathway.  This is for athletes that we have seen some key  attributes but need further evidence to see if these skills develop into what we believe is needed at a world class level.  The second step is the Talent Programme, for athletes that have demonstrated key attributes and now need support to continue their progression to being a world class international fencer.

Look out for the announcements for our women’s foil and men’s and women’s epee which will complete the first cohort of athletes for our two talent programmes.

For those that were not able to make first assessment days, there will be another assessment for every weapon in December.  The dates are yet to be finalised but please keep this in mind
