British Fencing is delighted to announce an exciting brand-new competition launching this season: The GB Cup, to be held in Nottingham on 23rd June 2018.

The aim of the event is to provide adult intermediate Regional fencers with a new annual National tournament.  British Fencing recognises there are numerous events across Great Britain that already cater for this target audience and would like to support these competitions by providing a National Final.

The GB Cup will run in a similar way to the BYC model, with fencers qualifying through a Regional event for a National Final.

Over the coming months Regions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will nominate an event taking place in their region to count as their GB Cup qualifier. Based on placings in these events, along with the eligibility criteria for the finals event, Regions will select the two highest placed fencers in each weapon to represent their Region at the National Finals.

The inaugural GB Cup will be held on Saturday 23rd June 2018 at the David Ross Sports Village at The University of Nottingham. Nottingham was chosen as a location due to its central location and the opportunity to use the world class sporting facilities offered by the recently opened David Ross Sports Village.

British Fencing CEO, Georgina Usher, said

The GB Cup is an exciting initiative for Regional fencing. This is the first competition that we are running solely for intermediate adult fencers and we hope that it will inspire greater participation at Regional level by providing an opportunity to qualify and compete in a national tournament”.

East Midlands Region Chairman, Evert Van Gemeren, said

“We are, as a Region, hoping this exciting new competition will kick start our Regional competitions and inter club relationships, a new beginning for intermediate club level fencers!”

Information on The GB Cup can be found here. Regional Qualifying events will be announced by each Region as they are confirmed.

Entries will be taken via the Regions.
