The latest version of The Sword has been published.  As we announced last year, in an effort to save costs, this edition is in PDF format only.  However, the layout is unchanged and the content is strong.

Karim Bashir has written an extensive six-page report on the National championships, accompanied by some outstanding photographs from the event – Paul Sachez-Letham’s fleche is particularly dramatic.  Jo Gilliver reports on the national championships for the British Disabled Fencing Association, and I talk to Richard Kruse about his magnificent victory in the World Combat Games in Saint Petersburg.  On the way, he beat Andrea Baldini, one of the top Italians, and in the final out-classed Race Imboden of the USA, winning 15-4.

There’s a four page spread on the FIE’s 100th anniversary celebrations in Paris, two pages on the development of breast and chest protectors, and a description of the new Leon Paul Fencing Centre in north London.  You can also read Ray Stafford’s touching obituary of Matthew Thompson, a much-loved figure in the fencing world.  All this, as well as a book review, a round-up of the veterans’ world championships, the Sussex Open, and The Sainsbury’s School Games, together with the traditional results section.  You can read the latest issue by clicking here. Enjoy!
