WILLIS, USHER & DEAMER APPOINTED BY EFC FOR 2024 C&J EUROS

BF’s Competition Manager, Jon Willis, has been appointed by the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) as President of DT for the 2024 Cadet and Junior European Championships, joined by BF’s CEO Georgina Usher as EFC Safeguarding Officer and Luke Deamer selected by the EFC to referee.

The EFC has appointed Jon Willis onto the Directoire Technique for the 2024 Cadet and Junior European Championships being held in Naples, Italy from the 22nd – 29th February 2024.

This is Jon’s first president of DT role, following DT appointments at previous U23 and Cadet & Junior European Championships, the Senior European Championships (2022) and European Games (2023) as well as his very recent DT role for the 2024 Cardiff Wheelchair Fencing World Cup.

Willis said, “I am honoured to be appointed by the EFC and I am looking forward to stepping up to work on DT with my European colleagues to deliver a fantastic event for all participants.”

Following his success in the FIE epee referee exams in 2023, Luke Deamer has been selected by the EFC as a referee for the event. Luke passed his foil FIE exam back in 2017 and since then has refereed in over 15 Junior Foil and Epee FIE World Cups, refereeing multiple finals, including most recently at the Udine JWC.

Deamer said, “Having passed my FIE Epee exam in September, I am delighted to have this opportunity to use both my licenses at my first major EFC championship event. Thank you to all those that continue to support my referee development. I look forward to representing Great Britain and working closely with Jon and Georgina in Naples. I’m sure I’ll learn lots that I can bring back to British Fencing competitions!”

Georgina Usher, CEO of British Fencing, takes on the role of EFC Safeguarding Officer following a number of EFC and FIE safeguarding appointments over the years.

Usher said, “It continues to be a privilege and priority to work with and for the EFC to deliver an environment where athletes can perform at their best, safe from harassment and abuse. This will be the first major EFC event where the new EFC Code of Conduct will be in place and I am looking forward to working with everyone to supporting its implementation.”
