2024 BF HONOURS: MARCUS MESSER

As nominations open for the 2025 BF Honours, we’re shining a spotlight on last year’s recipients. In this feature, we speak to Marcus Messer, who received an Award of Merit for volunteer services to fencing events.

Tell us a little about the work you do to support fencing.

I support fencing by helping to run BF national events and Southern region events and as my club treasurer.

What’s your favourite memory of your time volunteering in fencing?

My favourite memory would be the Cardiff Wheelchair World Cup and seeing the sports hall all set up for the first World Cup that I have been part of.

What does it mean to receive the 2024 BF Honours award?

Being awarded the BF Honours award means that my hours spent volunteering has been recognised by the wider BF community and encourages me to continue to volunteer my time.

What would you say to people considering volunteering in fencing or sport in general?

Volunteering can be long and stressful, but it is always worth the effort to see people enjoy the sport you love.

2025 NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN

If you know a BF member that has made a significant contribution to fencing in Britain whilst upholding our values of honesty, respect and excellence, why not nominate them for this year’s BF Honours award?

Nominations close on the 30th May 2025.
