23/24 GBR CWF AND CMF SELECTION – MANCHESTER 2023

Updated 28/09/2023

GB Women’s and Men’s Foil preliminary squad selected for the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) Cadet event in Manchester, England.

The Manchester EFC Foil competition is the second of 8 EFC cadet events in the 2023-2024 season. This is part of a fencer’s ongoing development to gain international experience and to work towards meeting the qualification standard for selection to represent Great Britain at the Cadet European and World Championships.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ THIS POST AND COMPLETE EVERYTHING THAT IS REQUIRED

The fencers below are selected as the preliminary squads for the EFC in Manchester on the 14th and 15th of October, 2023. Invites will be sent after the closing date for entries for the Cadet Nationals. The closing date for this event is on the 1st of September, 2023.

To be eligible to accept their GBR-selected place, they must meet the following criteria
1. Book into and attend the Cadet Nationals on the 16th of September in Nottingham.
2. Hold a GBR Passport or are eligible to apply for a passport and, therefore, eligible for a valid EFC License.
3. Purchase their EFC license within Sport80.

Upon completing criteria 1 to 3, selected fencers will be invited to accept their selection and pay the BF admin fee on Sport 80 (£20). The deadline for the preliminary invitations will be 5 p.m. on Friday, the 8th of September.

If any of the 64 remaining places available per event for GBR athletes will be open to athletes who have entered the Cadet National Championships but were not on the original selection list below. The selection will revert back to the original ranking list.

The second and final wave of invitations will be sent out on the 12th of September, and the closing date for selections will be 12 p.m. on the 18th of September, 2023.

Entries will be regularly updated on the EFC portal once they have completed the above steps during this period. Final entries onto the EFC portal will be completed by the 29th of September. It is not possible to enter after this date.

A separate invitation via Sport80 to the Manchester EFC event will then be sent to athletes who have completed the above steps to enter and pay the entry fee to the organisers.

Competition Date: 14th and 15th October 2023

FURTHER INFORMATION

Eligibility
As per the selection policy.

Accepting Your Place
A selection email from Sport80 will follow this post. Fencers must confirm the selection by following the instructions in the selection email, including making any payment due. Athletes who have not made payment will not be confirmed. Any athlete who clicks to accept a place and fails to make a payment by the due date may be charged an administration fee.

EFC Licence – REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.  Please ensure this is actioned before you complete the Sport80 Invite.
You must have a valid EFC Licence for the 23/24 Season. You will either need to renew your licence if you held one form last season or apply for a licence if this is your first time competing as a cadet at this level. Without a valid licence, we cannot enter you for the competition.

Instructions on how to apply for the licence
1. Go to your British Fencing Membership on Sport80 bf.sport80.com
2. Login using your membership details
3. Click on your profile
4. Then click on the Licences tab
5. And follow the directions to apply for an EFC licence.

All BF Codes of Conduct apply to athletes, parents, coaches and officials; attention is drawn to the Code of Conduct for Youth Events.

BF will do the entries through the EFC once all entries are finalised. Entries are done 14 days before the EFC deadline on Thursday.

Accredited Personal Coaches
If you wish to apply to attend in the capacity of a personal coach, you must register in advance with BF. Personal Coaches must apply for accreditation to each event using the following form. As a reminder, personal coaches must not coach against fellow GBR fencers during international competitions.

All coaches, including personal coaches, must be on the BF Coaching Register.

Equipment Requirements
FIE equipment should be used (800 NW clothes, 1600 NW masks, 800 NW plastron and FIE homologated blades).

Name and country printed on the back of the jacket/lame are not required. The ‘GBR’ patch is not required for cadets. These are required for athletes selected for Cadet European or World Championships or FIE Junior or FIE Senior international events.

Ensure your kit is in full working order, with all weapons and bodywires tested for continuity, resistance, and weight. You must do this before leaving the UK, as there may not be an armoury service or an equipment stall at the event.

Maintaining your equipment can mean the difference between hits registering or not. There will be weapon control. Different competitions check different items – so be prepared for everything to pass weapons control.

Travel
Parents are responsible for travel arrangements and the welfare of athletes.

Please visit the GBR Cadet page for more information about Anti-doping, Kit requirements, Guide to Weapon Checks, etc.

 Selection Queries
If you have any queries regarding the selection, please carefully read the selection policy, which can be found here. This policy will also help you understand who you need to contact if you think there has been an error in rankings or applying the policy.

If you have any queries regarding why you have not been selected for a discretionary place, you should contact us and use the pathway/ADP queries form.

To speak to the ADP Coach in your weapon, please book a discussion with them. Please email GBR Support regarding the specific selection you wish to discuss. Please ensure you have your Individual Athlete Development Plan (IADP) available and that it has been uploaded via this link before your discussion.

Appeals:
The BF Appeal Policy and Procedure published here sets out the framework process that will be followed. Athletes have two (2) working days to submit their notices of appeal.
