BF RATINGS SCHEME

Last Updated: 13th April 2026

A two-year pilot BF ratings scheme was launched in September 2023 for men’s foil, and has now been expanded across all weapons. The aim of the scheme is to provide incentives for fencers to compete more often and progress their ratings over time.

The rating system runs in parallel to the existing ranking systems. There is no intention of replacing the ranking system, which will continue to be used for seeding events and international selections.

The GB Cup (DEU Championships) will be taking place on the 25th-26th April 2026 at EIS Sheffield alongside the British Senior and Para Fencing National Championships! More info will be confirmed soon.

GOALS OF THE SCHEME:
  • Helps fencers to more easily enter events suitable for their experience level.
  • Helps to bridge the gap between beginner and elite fencing.
  • Gives fencers a clear progression path to improve their fencing.
  • Event organisers can use ratings to make their events more financially sustainable.
