BF is currently seeking nominations for athletes that wish to stand for election as Athlete Representatives (ARs) for a new BF Senior Athlete Representative Panel (ARP)

The nomination process will be run by the British Athletes Commission (BAC) in consultation with British Fencing.  Any athlete wishing to nominate themselves for election should complete an online nomination form which can be found here. (https://goo.gl/forms/pTOtFXFq7fN8VH752).

The nomination period will take place over 16 days and start on 11th April and will close at 17:00 on Thursday 26th April.

In the event of an election, this process will be run independently by the BAC and will be completely confidential. Online elections would start on 1st May, athletes will be given 14 days to vote. The voting will close at 17:00 on 14th May.

For more information about the role of an AR and the ARP please read the ARP Election Overview alongside the ARP Terms of Reference and the AR Role Description.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

Please note that all ARs if they are not already members will be required to join the BAC. BF will subsidise the membership fees so athlete will only be expected to contribute £20/year.  For information about the benefits of membership of the BAC please see the attached slide here and for more information visit https://www.britishathletes.org/.

Background

Over the last year, BF has been working with the BAC to set up an appropriate governance structure to allow athletes representing GBR to be better supported and have a formal mechanism to engage with BF over decisions that affect their participation in the sport.

This will be achieved through two panels:

1)        A revitalised BF Youth Panel – currently chaired by Tommy Curran Jones, this panel will represent the views of athletes representing GBR aged 23 and under.  (We will be shortly be publishing an update on the work in this area).

2)        A new BF Athletes Representative Panel to represent the views of the Athletes representing GBR at Senior level.  This panel will be made up of 6 elected athlete members, where possible one athlete from each discipline.

The BF Board has already invited the YP Chair to attend Board meetings and the ARP will also be entitled to send one member to attend Board meetings.
