AVA DAVIES WINS U20 FFE EUROPEAN CUP

Following performances in the EFC Fencing For Everyone events and European Junior World Cups, Ava Davies is announced by the EFC as the winner of the U20 Women’s Sabre European Cup.

“Fencing for Everyone (FFE)” is an initiative created by the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) to provide more opportunities for young fencers across Europe and beyond, addressing the gaps left by changes to the FIE calendar.

The Fencing for Everyone circuit offers competitions for both Under 20 and Under 23 fencers, ensuring that young athletes have additional chances to compete and develop their skills on the international stage.

The results from these tournaments contribute to the EFC European Cup rankings, with the top athletes and teams in both age categories being awarded prestigious titles at the end of the season.

The best three results from “Fencing for Everyone” tournaments, along with two results from FIE Junior World Cups held in Europe, will determine the final rankings.

As a winner of the Under 20 European Cup, Ava Davies will receive a cup, certificate, and a prize of €3,000.

Speaking of the award, Ava said:

“The FFE competition circuit has been amazing for me. It has allowed me to compete in more countries across Europe and against a high calibre of fencers. My highlight this season was the Udine FFE (where I was able to see some of Venice on my way!) and Sofia, but all the competitions were really well run with a very high standard of fencing.

“The FFE was a particularly special competition circuit this season because the support of my teammates was insane and they were genuinely really enjoyable competitions.

“I am really proud to be the highest placed U20 in the circuit. I have worked hard this season and stayed focused. I want to thank my parents for their support and encouragement, my coach Alex Bela, my PDFA and GBR teammates, my club and of course British Fencing.

I’m really looking forward to next season and pushing myself even further.”

Paul Davis, Academy Director at Ava’s club, Paul Davis Fencing Academy, added:

“It’s a wonderful achievement for Ava and the Academy. We always say, ‘an individual success is a team triumph’ and for Ava to have a consistently strong season, we are grateful for her dedication to the sport, her training, the whole team and Academy community around her. Our Pathway Scheme is in its second full season and we are reassured that the decisions are moving us in the right direction.”
