The following athletes have been appointed as Athlete Representatives to the BF Senior Athlete Representative Panel:
These appointments were made as a result of a nomination process supported by the British Athletes Commission (BAC). https://www.britishfencing.com/athlete-representative-elections-nominations-open/
Mark Lyttle, Chair of BF said, “I am delighted that we have a full panel of athletes to represent the views of senior international athletes across all weapons and make a positive contribution in discussions and decisions across the organisation that affect them. I look forward to welcoming the Chair of the Panel to future Board meetings. I would also like to thank the BAC for their support during this important process”
Tommy Curran Jones, newly appointed member of the Senior Athlete Representative Panel and Chair of the existing Youth Panel, said “I feel immensely privileged to be given the opportunity to represent my fellow fencers. This panel represents an exciting opportunity and it’s great that British Fencing is looking for better ways to create a dialogue with their elite athletes. I’m sure that a body which brings together athletes from all weapons will help to ensure that more voices are heard and fewer issues are left unchallenged. We need world class support for our world class athletes and I think this is an important step in that direction”
Caitlin McClatchey, former international swimmer, and Athlete Representative Manager at the British Athletes Commission said,
“Athletes are at the centre of performance sport, so it is important that their views are heard. Athlete Representation is a mechanism for the athletes’ voice to be communicated to their Governing Body. Being an Athlete Representative provides athletes with the opportunity to feed the athletes’ voice into important decision-making within their Governing Body. These positions also support athletes to develop themselves professionally and personally, whilst training at the highest level of performance sport.
The BAC is delighted to have worked with British Fencing to support an open and transparent Athlete Representation process and I look forward to working closely with the Athlete Representatives moving forwards.”
