Solid Start for Epeeist Dickinson

This weekend saw the beginning of the 2015-16 Cadet International season with two British fencers competing in Hungary.

Men’s Epee – Budapest

The season opener in Budapest saw one hundred and seventy-four fencers take to the piste including, Matthew Dickinson and Devlin Stigant.  Stigant started the event in great form winning all six of his first round matches but Dickinson only won three of his six first round matches.  Stigant was ranked thirteenth for the elimination stages with Dickinson down in seventy-first.  Devlin had a bye through the round of 256 but then narrowly lost to Bobrov (EST) 15-14.  Dickinson also received a bye through the round of 256 before beating Tiktopoulos (GRE) 15-11, Mental (POL) 15-6 and Bende (HUN) 15-9 to make the round of 16.  There he faced Farkas (HUN) and the host nation fencer went on to win 15-8.  Farkas went on to share the bronze medal placing with Lubieniecki (POL) as Nagy (HUN) took the gold medal, beating Jurka (CZE) 15-12 in the final.

GB individual placings:  Dickinson 15th & Stigant 66th.
