CLUB AFFILIATION: CHECK YOUR PRIMARY CLUB BY 30th AUGUST 2023

Members are encouraged to check their Primary Club is correct in the BF Sport80 platform.

Members are encouraged to check their Primary Club is correct in the BF Sport 80 platform – particularly those members affiliated to more than one club. Updates required by 30th August, at which point the Primary Club will be locked. All secondary clubs that require access to your profile must also be linked to your membership by this date (e.g. a secondary club where you train).

In 2022 BF launched a consultation on the concept of members affiliating to one Primary Club. The feedback from members and clubs was predominantly supportive with many recognising how this will strengthen club affiliation, help encourage inter club competitions, increase club control over affiliation and referee provision for events, support safeguarding efforts and ensure clubs remain insured.  (More information on the Club Affiliation Consultation and a summary of the feedback can be found here).

Since the formal consultation we have been working to address the queries raised and making changes to the BF Membership Platform (Sport80).

BF individual members have until 30th August 2023 to confirm their primary club on their Sport80 Membership Profile. Members must also ensure any additional clubs that require access to your profile must also be linked to your membership by this date (e.g. a secondary club where you train or a school or university club).

To support clubs in managing affiliation of members, from 31st August 2023 Club Admins will also be given new features on their club’s membership profile, allowing them to report on and maintain accurate records of their members. (Sign up for a club admin dedicated Community Discussion event will be emailed to clubs)

FAQs – Please note these questions will be updated throughout August

What do Individual Members need to do?

  1. Log into the BF Sport80 Platform
  2. Once logged in, click on ‘Edit’ and the membership pop up will open
  3. In the left hand menu, click on ‘Club Info’
  4. In the list of clubs, ensure the club you wish to be your ‘Primary Club’ going forward is ticked. Any other clubs listed on your profile will no longer be visible on your membership from 31st August 2023, however, all additional clubs will continue to have access to your profile through access management feature (which individual members are also able to check)
  5. Click ‘Save’

What if do multiple weapons at different clubs?

The club listed as your ‘Primary Club’ is the club you are affiliated to for competitions.

BF recognises that some members compete in more than one weapon, for different clubs. In this instance, if you compete in events in multiple weapons, members should complete this form.

Before the end of August, ensure all clubs are listed (with one as your primary club) on your profile.

If I fence at University or School, how do I add this as a secondary club to my profile?

All additional clubs will continue to have access to your profile through access management feature. Please ensure they are listed on your profile ahead of the deadline.

What if I am not currently affiliated to a club?

Unattached remains an option on the club drop down in membership profiles.

How do I change my Primary club after 31st August 2023?

Moving forward, there will be an official process in place allowing individuals and clubs to transfer affiliation under certain limited circumstances. This will happen through a ‘Transfers’ option within the membership profile on Sport80. This process will allow individuals to request affiliation changes, which will in most cases need to be approved by both club admins.

How do I add further clubs after 31st August 2023?

After 31st August, Club Admins can affiliate members to their clubs profile at any time. Members can approve a request from a Club via their profile.

Will there be an extra charges?

Not for the 23-24 season, however moving forward the intention is to bring in pre-season ‘Transfer windows’ where transfers are free, and charges for standard transfers outside that period.

What happens if I have already entered a competition?

The platform will automatically update the competition organisers’ reports from that. We recommend that members tell clubs in advance when they are planning to change their Primary Clubs before completing a Transfer request.

Information and video guides on this process, both for individual members and club admins, will be provided once this feature is live.
