My Coaching Philosophy
My coaching Philosophy is that we should be constantly learning from all fields of the sport and learning from all environments based on total inclusivity from beginner level all the way to high performance athletes.

I am one of the founders and coaches of Bristol Blades Fencing Club where we focus on being a community based inclusive club promoting the sport locally and inspiring the future fencing community, from the grass roots upwards from delivering school and community sessions to providing elite level coaching to GB squad fencers. In 2020 we were named British Fencings community club of the year. At Bristol Blades we are passionate about being an inclusive club providing sessions for Bristols specialist learning disability schools and we have just formed a partnership with Access Sport Bristol to help us deliver to our Disabled community in Bristol.
I am also employed by Bristol University as the lead coach, where I am part of the High Performance Sports programme. This programme is currently working with current British Junior and Senior fencers through their University careers. We are proud to have built an excellent fencing community at Bristol University with a fantastic programme for students ranging from beginners to full Senior internationals. Both Bristol’s Men’s and Ladies teams compete in the BUCS premier league south with our Ladies Team being reigning BUCS Southern Premiership champions.
To date over the last 20 plus years of coaching I have produced numerous fencers, competing in all age groups from Under 10 County Champions to Senior National Foil Champions. I have also coached numerous athletes to international selection and success including Junior World Cup finalists and Olympic and Paralympic qualifiers. Over my time in the sport I have been involved with and worked with many of the Great Britain Foil Squads from the U17s to a Senior level and gaining a wealth of experience at many World Cups. I am currently one of British Fencings ADP Talent coaches and travelled with both the Mens and Ladies Junior Great Britain teams to numerous World Cups as Team Coach in the 2019/20 Season. I have also been British Foil Coach at both numerous European and World Championships most recently the Cadet European Championships in Foggia, Italy in 2019.
I am also currently the assistant coach for the World Class Programme with The English Institute of Sport and the GB Wheelchair Fencing Team.
Innovative, Emphatic, Dedicated.
I have a willingness to constantly learn and adapt to new ideas.
I am able to be emphatic to different athlete’s situations and needs.
I am driven and willing to put myself in positions outside of my comfort zone. This is something I believe is a key skill for coaches as it is something we should strive to encourage in our athletes.
