Compassionate Communication is Key

Compassionate Communication workshop series launched with staff session.

The session was part of a series of workshops and development opportunities being delivered across the fencing community through the working relationship with TAP.

Todd Iarussi gave a practical introduction to techniques used to identify needs and feelings. Discussions centred around specific challenging situations. The team was coached on how to create a positive, practical outcome from the discussion. Todd is a research associate at Brown University and Executive and Leadership coach at Rhinomind.

Following on from the session the BF team will be integrating compassionate communication techniques into the work that we do –  whilst also being able to understand and support further onward delivery of workshops to the wider community.

TAP develops compassionate and mindful approaches to training for athletes and coaches. Sam Parfitt from TAP attended Athlete Development Camps throughout the last year and developed the mentor programme for senior and upcoming athletes as part of the Aspiration Fund.

Members of British Fencing can access online workshops with TAP at a reduced rate. Look out for email invitations if you are a coach or athlete. Workshops include ‘Harnessing the Power of Athlete Identity and Values’ with Olympic fencer Laurence Halsted.
