Consultation Opens for 2021-22 BF Ranking Schemes

2021-22 Senior U20 & U17 Draft Ranking Schemes are published for community consultation until 18th June.

The 2021-22 BF Ranking Schemes have been pulled into one document which now includes the schemes for Seniors, U20s and U17s.

Key Adjustments

Seniors

  • Athletes in the top 83% of any event will score points, irrespective of the size of the event.
  • Athletes placed in the bottom 17% of the domestic rankings will score 1 point and will appear on the national rankings.
  • Increased and redistributed the allocation of athletes considered a NIF within the system. This increases the ranking point scoring opportunities in the domestic circuit.
  • EFC Under 23 events (opens) are now recognised within the ranking system.

U17s (Cadets) & U20s (Juniors) Schemes

  • Increased consistency across the ranking schemes.
  • Ranking is now the best SIX results, up to FOUR can be internationals.
  • International results now score points if they are placed in the top 70%.
  • The multiplier for international events is no longer fixed, a scale that reflects the size and strength of the event is applied after the event.
  • There will be the opportunity for the ADP to identify development competitions for ranking points using the ‘Development multiplier’. (An example could be non-nominated EFC events)
  • U17/Cadet only – For U14 fencers transitioning to U17s that have less than three counting results, the BYC Under 14’s results will provide additional points.
  • U20/Junior only- Cadet transition bonus of 10% for fencers that have less than three counting junior results.

The document also includes a proposal for a new U23s ranking scheme designed to support the transition between U20s and seniors by providing competition goals and structure. The scheme will also be used be to support selections for the Under 23 European Championships and provide evidence that younger Seniors are ready for selections to identified Senior International competitions to support further pathway progression.
