Weapon Specific Course (L4)
This course was developed for coaches with fencers that are performance fencers. The course will explore different lesson types, and lessons designed to meet the development need of a performance fencer.
Who should attend?
Head coaches from clubs and organisation with a number of years coaching experience, and have a number of fencers involved in international competitions.
Pre-requisites to attend the course
- 18 + years old Hold valid British Fencing membership
- Hold a British Fencing Level 3 or the British Fencing, or the Weapon Specific (L3)
- Coaches looking to add another weapon having attended BF L4 courses prior to 2016
- Successful course application, including submission of video of the candidate coaching, this as evidence of suitability to attend the course
Commitment
The course is based on a modular approach with a combination of theoretical and practical content. The course consists of:
- Pre-course work – submission of a season plan, and a number of connected fencing session plans.
- On-course presentation on a technical aspect of the weapon of study
- On-course – lesson design and delivery
- Post course paper on a coaching aspect of the weapon of study
2 days on course delivery (16 hours)
Pre-requisites for certification
- 18 years of age
- Evidence of the appropriate First Aid training
- Evidence of the appropriate Safeguarding and Protecting Children training
- Disclosure and Barring Service check
