From Millfield School:

Millfield School is looking for a Head of Fencing, minimum level 3 qualified coach in at least 2 disciplines, to lead their comprehensive fencing programme. The Head Coach will step into an excellent programme shaped over the past decade and have an opportunity to continue the legacy developed to date.

Millfield is one of the leading UK independent schools for boys and girls, aged 2-18 years. Millfield is not like other schools and never has been. Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6) and a further 450 students at the neighbouring Prep School. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries. Millfield’s size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.

The fencing programme at Millfield provides opportunity for pupils aged 5 – 18 no matter their experience and ability. There is a team of specialist coaches who cover all three fencing disciplines, and our outstanding facilities include a purpose-built Fencing Salle with ten training pistes with full electronic data recording equipment. Pupils at Millfield have access to specialist athletic development coaches, onsite physiotherapy, a nutritionist and a performance analyst.

As the Head of Fencing, you will be responsible for ensuring that the fencing programme remains competitive amongst other schools and continues to support and develop all abilities from the social recreational fencer to the aspirational youth international in Fencing and Modern Pentathlon. This will include developing IDPs covering training and competition demands, providing technical coaching to students, contributing to the Sports Scholarship Programme and developing new links with the community and external sporting bodies. As the Head of Fencing, you will also be expected to expand on the school’s entrepreneurial activity and the promotion of Millfield School through fencing and provide support to Millfield Prep School. You will be expected to be an excellent administrator and able to manage multiple tasks at once. You must have a passion for development and youth sport.

The successful candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification with the ability to coach a minimum of 2 fencing disciplines. They must understand and have experience of education, holistic development and be connected to the fencing community.

We are ideally looking for this role to start in August 2021 in preparation for the new academic year.

This is a full-time role which includes work during the school holidays, in return you will receive a competitive salary and 10 weeks holiday per annum to be taken outside of term time.

Closing Date: 5th May 2021 at noon
