This Summer sees several new developments for the National Academy training British Fencing has offered to fencers for the past 2 years.
We have entered into a partnership with Scottish Fencing to run a residential week at Inverclyde National Sports centre in July. This will see National Academy fencing coaches and Strength & Conditioning coaches working with Scottish coaches to support fencers better. The camp will have the use of cutting-edge video analysis equipment owned by British Fencing. This course will also offer a new British Fencing team manager training day on the 8th July, details on the British Fencing and Scottish Fencing web sites (http://www.britishfencing.com/academy/academyskilldevelopment/academy_team_manager_training/). This course will also have a visiting guest coach from Italy, Serena Pivotti. She will be sharing her experience with the coaches running the course and will also run master class sessions for visiting coaches.
The training in August will now be run over 2 venues, foil and sabre fencers will be at Nottingham Trent University, epee fencers will travel to Tauberbischofsheim in Germany. This has allowed us to expand the programme & we will have over 150 fencers taking advantage of this training.
We can announce that we will have 2 groups of international fencers taking part in Nottingham. We have the French national cadet sabre team (including finalists from the European Championships this year) and a group of 5 Italian sabre fencers from Foggia. Both groups will have coaches with them & these coaches will take a full part in the training for the benefit of our fencers. We also have some new S&C training and monitoring planned for this week.
We can also announce that the British Paralympic team will be training with the National Academy fencers for a few days just before they go to their Olympic holding camp.
