Try a fencing competition focusing on the skill at hand and fast-paced blade work. No classification or disability required at the British Open Wheelchair Championships 2026, 4th-5th July.
BF is aware that not everyone who wants to fence sitting down is currently classified, or is interested in or able to be classified under the Paralympics system, but we don’t want that to stop people from being able to take part in the sport.
If you have always been fascinated by wheelchair fencing, but aren’t a wheelchair user day-to-day, the British Open Wheelchair Championships is your opportunity.
At the British Open Championships, we have fencing for everyone. You can join the wheelchair competition in any of the three weapons, and BF will have an RMA fencing wheelchair available to borrow for bouts (please contact us if you have any more kit requirements to take part).
The British Open Wheelchair Championships is for all BF Compete members, including those not eligible to compete for GBR, and international visitors.
The format used will be published after entries have closed.
BF is mindful of the rising costs of attending fencing events and the potential barrier to participation this creates for some members of our community.
As a result, BF offers a limited number of free entries to athletes wishing to enter the British Open Wheelchair Championships. These will be offered based on financial need, not on ability. This scheme will cover 100% of the entry fee cost. More information on the scheme and how to apply is available here.
Entry Fee Support Scheme applications close 3rd June, 5pm.

The event takes place on 4th-5th July 2025 at the EIS Sheffield, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, S9 5DA. For more information, click here: 2026 British Open Wheelchair Championships
Why not come and compete? Everyone is welcome, and you may even get the opportunity to fence against some of the best in Britain – and learn so much more about your capabilities.
