REGULATORY REQUIREMENT: BF AFFILIATED CLUBS (ERN INFORMATION)

BF Affiliated Clubs are required to provide additional information about the status of their Employer’s Reference Number (ERN), in order to be covered by BF’s Employers Liability policy. Please update information via the provided form by 31st May 2026.

In order to be covered by BF’s Employers Liability policy, it is a regulatory requirement for insurers to hold BF Affiliated Clubs Employer’s Reference Number (ERN).

If a club does not have an ERN, a reason must be supplied to the insurers.

Clubs are required to complete this form to ensure this information is passed on to our insurers.

BF will be emailing clubs that have not provided us with this information. Please check your emails and respond.

If we have not received a response from you, this will affect your eligibility for cover, i.e. you will not be covered by BF’s Employer’s Liability insurance policy.

More information

The ERN is a number given to every business that registers with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as an employer, and is provided by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) under which the employees’ income tax and NI contributions are recorded.

It can be obtained from any mandatory HMRC documentation, including P45, P60, P11/D and most payslips. In all cases where PAYE is operated, an ERN is allocated to the employer, and the ERN applies to all UK businesses employing one or more people.

If any entity insured does not have an ERN, a reason must be supplied to insurers from the following:

  • All employees earn below PAYE threshold.
  • Business registered outside England, Scotland, Wales or NI.
  • Organisation has no paid employees.

Clubs who have not yet provided us with this information are asked to complete this form by 31st May 2026.

If you have any questions (or want to confirm we already have your information), please contact us by emailing [email protected].
