SAFETY INFORMATION – UNDER PLASTRONS

Last updated 8th June 2026.

Requirements for plastrons vary by activity. For details on specific requirements by activity see EQUIPMENT BY ACTIVITY – SAFETY GUIDELINES.

Where plastrons are required they should conform at least to the minimum safety standard of CEN Level 1 and bearing the appropriate CEN safety mark.

Buying Recommendation – Anyone purchasing an under plastron for personal use is advised to purchase an 800N plastron as the price difference between that and a 350N plastron will be small but it will meet the standards for all activities including National Championships.

A final reminder

Everyone participating in fencing is responsible for safety. If you think that a fencer/your opponent is fencing with an unsafe or unsecured protective equipment please alert a club or competition official.

Every incident (accident, injury or near miss) must be recorded using this form.
